Invincipole Infinity Shatterproof Downstem

The Invincipole Infinity is a shatterproof downstem made from aerospace aluminium that fits virtually any glass bong or dab rig. Built by Invincibowl — a brand focused entirely on indestructible smoking accessories — this telescoping downstem adjusts from 3 to 5.75 inches (7.6–14.6 cm) and slots into both 14mm and 18mm joints without adapters, fuss, or the sinking feeling of watching glass shatter on a tile floor.

Which Colour?

The Invincipole Infinity comes in five finishes: Black, Blue, Pink, Red, and Orange. They're all identical in specs — same aerospace aluminium, same telescoping mechanism, same diffusion holes. Pick whichever matches your piece or clashes gloriously with it. The anodised coating on each is smooth to the touch and holds up well to regular cleaning.

Why a Shatterproof Downstem Changes Everything

A shatterproof downstem removes the single most breakable component from your bong. Glass downstems are thin, awkwardly shaped, and usually the first casualty when you're cleaning your piece over the sink or someone bumps the table. With the Invincipole Infinity, that failure mode simply doesn't exist.

The telescope mechanism is the genuinely clever bit. Most replacement downstems come in fixed lengths — 4 inches, 4.5 inches, 5 inches — and you end up measuring your bong joint-to-base with a ruler, ordering one, and hoping it sits at the right depth. The Invincipole adjusts continuously between 3 and 5.75 inches, so it fits short beakers, tall straight tubes, and everything in between. You slide it to the length you need, drop it in, done. No more hunting for a downstem that's exactly 4.25 inches because your bong is between standard sizes.

And the diffusion is solid. Multiple small holes at the base of the stem break your smoke into smaller bubbles before it hits the water. More surface area contact means cooler, smoother pulls. It won't match a 6-arm tree perc, obviously — it's a downstem, not a percolator — but for a single-component replacement, the difference over a standard open-ended glass stem is noticeable. You'll feel less harshness in the throat on bigger hits.

How the Invincipole Infinity Feels in Hand

The first thing you notice is the weight. It's noticeably heavier than a glass downstem — not dramatically, but enough that it feels substantial rather than fragile. The anodised aluminium finish is smooth and slightly cool to the touch, with no rough edges or machining marks. The telescope action has a firm, satisfying slide to it — there's enough friction that it holds its position without slipping, but it's not so tight that you need to force it. It feels like a piece of kit that was actually engineered, not just thrown together.

The honest limitation? Aluminium conducts heat more readily than glass. After extended sessions with back-to-back bowls, the top of the downstem where it meets the joint can get warm. It's not burning hot — the water cools things significantly — but if you're the type who chain-smokes bowl after bowl, you'll notice it. For normal use with a few minutes between hits, it's a non-issue.

How to Set Up Your Invincipole Shatterproof Downstem

  1. Remove your existing glass downstem from your bong or rig. If it's stuck, run warm water over the joint for 30 seconds to loosen any resin seal — don't force it.
  2. Check your bong's joint size. The Invincipole fits both 14mm and 18mm joints. If you're unsure, a 14mm joint is roughly the diameter of a pencil; an 18mm joint is closer to a penny.
  3. Collapse the Invincipole fully (3 inches / 7.6 cm) and slide it into the joint at an angle, just as you would a glass downstem.
  4. Extend the telescope until the diffusion holes at the base sit about 1–2 cm below the waterline. You want the holes submerged but not touching the bottom of the bong — leave a gap so airflow isn't restricted.
  5. Fill your bong with water until it covers the diffusion holes by roughly 1 cm. Too much water and you'll get splashback; too little and you lose the filtration benefit.
  6. Test with a dry pull (no bowl, no flame). Draw through the mouthpiece. You should see even bubbles rising from the diffusion holes. If the bubbles are uneven or one side isn't firing, adjust the downstem depth slightly.
  7. Attach your bowl piece, pack it, and you're set. The Invincipole pairs with any standard 14mm or 18mm bowl — including Invincibowl's own shatterproof version if you want a fully unbreakable setup.

Cleaning Your Invincipole Downstem

Aluminium is far easier to clean than glass because resin doesn't bond to the metal surface as aggressively. A 15-minute soak in isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) followed by a rinse under warm water handles most buildup. For the diffusion holes, a pipe cleaner or thin brush poked through each hole clears any blockage. The telescope joint can collect residue over time — extend and collapse it a few times during the soak to work the alcohol into the sliding mechanism. Dry it thoroughly before reassembling. We'd recommend cleaning after every 5–10 sessions to keep diffusion even and airflow unrestricted.

One thing to avoid: don't use salt-and-alcohol shaking the way you would with a glass piece. The salt won't damage the aluminium, but granules can get lodged in the telescope joint and make the sliding action gritty. Stick to soaking and brushing.

Invincipole vs Glass Downstems — A Straight Comparison

Joint compatibility14mm and 18mm (single unit)Must match exact joint size
DiffusionMulti-hole at stem baseVaries — slit, holes, or open end

Flavour neutralityNeutral after break-in periodFully neutral from day one
LifespanIndefinite with careUntil the next accident
CleaningSoak and brush — no salt shakeSalt + iso shake works fine

Glass purists will point out that borosilicate is completely flavour-neutral, and they're right. Aluminium can impart a very faint metallic taste for the first few sessions — run a couple of iso cleans before your first proper use and it disappears. After that break-in, we couldn't tell the difference in a blind test. The trade-off is that you'll never buy another downstem again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Invincipole Infinity fit my bong?

Almost certainly. It fits both 14mm and 18mm joints — which covers the vast majority of glass bongs and dab rigs on the market. The adjustable length (3–5.75 inches / 7.6–14.6 cm) means it works with short beakers through to tall straight tubes. The only scenario where it won't fit is a non-standard or oversized joint.

Does aerospace aluminium affect the taste of smoke?

There can be a very faint metallic taste during the first 2–3 sessions. Clean the Invincipole with isopropyl alcohol before first use and it clears up quickly. After that initial break-in, the aluminium is effectively flavour-neutral.

Can I use the Invincipole shatterproof downstem with a dab rig?

Yes. It fits any rig with a 14mm or 18mm joint, same as a bong. Just adjust the telescope length so the diffusion holes sit below the waterline. Works with both flower bowls and dab nails.

How do I clean the telescope mechanism?

Soak the entire downstem in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol for 15 minutes. While it's soaking, extend and collapse the telescope a few times to work the alcohol into the sliding joint. Rinse under warm water, dry fully. Avoid using salt — granules can get stuck in the mechanism.

Is the Invincipole really indestructible?

Aerospace aluminium won't shatter, crack, or chip like glass. You could drop it on concrete and pick it up undamaged. "Indestructible" in practical terms means it'll outlast every glass downstem you've ever owned. The anodised coating can scratch with heavy abuse, but that's cosmetic — function stays the same.

Do I need an adapter for 18mm joints?

No. The Invincipole is designed to fit both 14mm and 18mm joints natively. No adapters, no O-rings, no extra parts needed. One downstem, two joint sizes.

How does the diffusion compare to a percolator?

The multi-hole design at the base of the Invincipole provides solid diffusion for a downstem — noticeably smoother than an open-ended glass tube. It won't match a dedicated tree perc or honeycomb percolator, but for a single replaceable component, the improvement in smoothness and cooling is real.
