KB-2000 Scale by On Balance — Accurate 0.1g Tabletop Weighing

The KB-2000 scale is a tabletop digital scale from On Balance that reads to 0.1g increments across a 2000g capacity. That range covers everything from a pinch of concentrate to a full bag of dried herb — one scale, no compromises. The generous removable bowl, LED display, and rubber-footed base make this a proper workhorse for your countertop, not some flimsy pocket gadget you'll replace in three months. If you're ready to buy a KB-2000 scale that actually earns its counter space, this is the one to order.

0.1g readability 2000g max capacity Removable bowl 4 weighing units (g, oz, dwt, ct) Runs on 2x AA batteries

Why a Dedicated 0.1g Scale Matters

A 0.1g scale gives you ten times the precision of a standard kitchen scale, which typically rounds to the nearest gram or even 5g. That's fine for flour. It's useless when you're portioning out 0.3g of concentrate or trying to measure consistent microdoses of dried mushrooms. The KB-2000 scale reads in 0.1g steps, which means you actually know what you're working with. Then they weigh their usual amount and find it's 40% heavier than they thought. Consistency starts with a proper scale.

The 2000g capacity is what sets the KB-2000 scale apart from most precision scales in this price bracket. Plenty of 0.1g scales top out at 200g or 500g. The KB-2000 gives you two full kilograms to play with, so you can weigh an entire harvest batch without swapping to a second scale. That's genuinely useful — not a spec that only matters on paper.

One honest limitation: 0.1g resolution isn't enough if you're measuring single-milligram quantities. For that, you'd need a milligram scale (0.001g). The KB-2000 scale is built for portioning, not laboratory-grade micro-measurement. Know what you need before you buy.

What You Get in the Box

The KB-2000 scale arrives with the scale base, the removable weighing bowl, and a user manual. Batteries are not included — you'll need two standard AA batteries. Grab a pack before it arrives so you're not hunting through drawers on day one. The scale is ready to use straight out of the box once you drop the batteries in.

How the KB-2000 Scale Feels to Use

The KB-2000 scale weighs noticeably more than a pocket unit, and that heft translates to stability on any flat surface. The first thing you notice is the weight of the bowl. It's a proper piece — not thin stamped metal that flexes when you press on it. The raised sides are about 3cm high, enough to keep loose herb from spilling over the edge when you're scooping. The rubber feet on the base grip well on a wooden or tiled surface. On a glossy countertop, give it a nudge — it stays put. That matters because even a slight wobble throws off a reading at 0.1g precision.

The LED display is bright and easy to read from a normal standing distance. No squinting, no tilting your head. The mode button sits next to the screen and cycles through grams, ounces, pennyweight, and carats with a single press. Most people will live in grams, but the oz mode is handy if you're following an older recipe or guide that uses imperial measurements.

Cleaning is where this KB-2000 scale really earns its keep. The bowl lifts straight off the base. Run it under the tap, dry it, drop it back on. The base itself just needs a wipe. We've seen scales where the weighing platform is fixed and you end up picking sticky residue out of crevices for ten minutes. Not here.

How to Use the KB-2000 Scale

Setting up the KB-2000 scale takes under a minute — insert batteries, place on a flat surface, and press power.

  1. Insert two AA batteries into the compartment on the underside of the scale base.
  2. Place the scale on a flat, stable surface — avoid carpet or uneven tables. The rubber feet need a hard, level surface to do their job.
  3. Place the removable bowl onto the scale base, seating it firmly in the centre.
  4. Press the power button. The LED display will light up and show 0.0g once calibrated.
  5. If the bowl weight shows on the display, press the tare button to zero it out. This subtracts the bowl's weight so you only measure what's inside.
  6. Press the mode button to select your preferred weighing unit: g, oz, dwt, or ct.
  7. Add your material to the bowl. The display updates in real time, reading to the nearest 0.1g.
  8. To weigh a second item separately, press tare again with the first item still in the bowl. The display resets to 0.0g, and you can add the next item.
  9. When finished, press the power button to switch off. Remove the bowl and wash it if needed.

KB-2000 Scale vs Pocket Scales — Which Do You Actually Need?

The KB-2000 scale is the better choice for home use when you need capacity above 500g and a stable weighing surface with a full-size bowl.

Feature KB-2000 (tabletop) Typical pocket scale
Max capacity 2000g 100–500g
Readability 0.1g 0.01–0.1g
Bowl/platform 17.8cm removable bowl with raised sides Small flat platform, often no bowl
Portability Stays on the counter Fits in a jacket pocket
Liquid measurement Yes (ml mode via bowl) Rarely
Best use Home portioning, batch weighing, kitchen counter On-the-go, travel, very small quantities

We'd pick the KB-2000 scale over a pocket scale for home use every time. The bowl alone makes it worth it — you can dump herb straight in without balancing it on a tiny platform. Pocket scales are great for portability, but they're fiddly for anything over 50g and most don't handle liquids. If you mainly weigh at home and want one scale that covers 0.1g to 2kg, get the KB-2000 scale and be done with it.
