Ready-2-Grow Bag 'APE'
Ready-2-Grow bags are sealed, pre-colonised mushroom cultivation kits that skip inoculation entirely — the mycelium is already living in the substrate when it arrives. Good if you want to grow Psilocybe cubensis at home without syringes, sterile gloves, or a pressure cooker. Azarius carries nine strains in this format, from beginner-friendly Golden Teacher to analytically-tested APE. Shop the full range below — shipped from Amsterdam, smartshop since 1999.
A Ready-2-Grow bag is a 2 kg all-in-one grow kit: colonised substrate sealed inside a filtered bag with a tear-strip for passive airflow. You don't inoculate it, you don't transfer it, you don't build a shotgun fruiting chamber. You open the tear, mist if needed, wait. First pins usually show in 7–14 days depending on strain and room temperature.
The honest pitch: if you've been staring at spore syringes and vermiculite tutorials for a week and still haven't ordered anything, this is the format for you. Less control than a proper tub grow, but near-zero contamination risk because the bag stays sealed until the mycelium has already won the substrate war.
Choosing by experience level is simpler than choosing by potency percentages. Start from the left column.
| Strain | Potency | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Golden Teacher | Moderate | First-time buyers — the default pick |
| Hillbilly Pumpkin | Moderate | Forgiving of temperature swings and beginner mistakes |
| MVP | Moderate–high | Big yields, up to 500 g per bag |
| Jedi Mind Fuck | High | Growers who want size and density |
| McKennaii | High | Known strong strain, reliable flushes |
| Jack Rabbit | High | Rare albino genetics, visual novelty |
| Enigma | Very high | Coral clusters, Tidal Wave lineage, 8-week patience required |
| Makilla Gorilla | Very high | Double Penis Envy genetics, dense fruits |
| APE | Highest — tested above 0.9% psilocybin | Experienced growers only, roughly 2× Golden Teacher |
Three formats, three levels of involvement. Traditional grow kits (the square box with a perlite casing) give you a visible mycelium cake to mist and flush — more hands-on, arguably more satisfying. Spore syringes require you to prepare your own substrate, inoculate, and wait 3–4 weeks for colonisation before fruiting even starts.
Ready-2-Grow bags sit at the easy end. You skip the 3–4 week colonisation wait entirely. The trade-off: one flush, maybe two if you're lucky and rehydrate well. If you want multiple big flushes from the same kit, the traditional box format still wins on yield per euro.
If this is your first grow, buy Golden Teacher. It's the most-sold cubensis strain on earth for a reason — tolerant of temperature wobbles, reasonable potency, and the flush pattern is predictable. Hillbilly Pumpkin is the other no-brainer for beginners; it forgives humidity dips and first-timer over-misting.
Second grow or third? Step up to McKennaii, MVP, or Jedi Mind Fuck. Same growing technique, noticeably stronger results. We'd pick MVP for anyone chasing raw yield — 500 g from a single bag is realistic with decent room conditions.
Experienced growers who already know their set and setting should order APE or Makilla Gorilla. APE in particular is the strongest cubensis we carry, and at roughly double Golden Teacher potency, your usual dose needs halving. Enigma is the weird one — no caps or stems, just dense coral-like clusters, and it takes around 8 weeks rather than the usual 2–3. Only buy it if patience is your thing.
When in doubt, start with Golden Teacher. Nobody has ever regretted learning on a Golden Teacher bag.
That's it. No humidity tent, no hygrometer, no perlite tray. The bag is the fruiting chamber.
Most strains show first pins within 7–14 days of opening the CO₂ strip, with a full first flush harvested 2–3 weeks in. Enigma is the exception at around 8 weeks because of its slow-fruiting Tidal Wave genetics.
A healthy 2 kg bag produces 200–500 g of fresh mushrooms per flush, depending on strain and room conditions. MVP, Jack Rabbit, and Golden Teacher sit at the top end of that range. Expect one strong flush and a smaller second if you rehydrate properly.
Golden Teacher, no contest. It handles temperature swings, forgives over-misting, and the potency is manageable for a first experience. Hillbilly Pumpkin is the second pick for the same reasons.
No sterile technique required — the substrate is already fully colonised when it arrives, so contamination risk is minimal. Just wash your hands before tearing the CO₂ strip and avoid touching the substrate directly.
Ready-2-Grow bags are simpler and more contamination-resistant but typically give one solid flush. Traditional kits with a perlite casing yield more flushes over time but need more hands-on care. If this is grow number one, buy the bag.
