Clipper Lighter — Love Martians Collection

The Clipper Love Martians lighter is a refillable, flint-based lighter featuring quirky alien-themed love designs — one of the most recognisable lighter brands in any smoker's pocket since the 1970s. Clipper lighters are made in Barcelona, built with a removable flint wheel that doubles as a tamping tool, and they run on standard butane. You get one lighter per order, design selected at random from the Love Martians series.

Why Clipper Lighters Keep Turning Up in Every Stash Box

There's a reason you see Clippers everywhere — from Amsterdam coffeeshops to your mate's kitchen drawer. They're one of the few lighters on the market that are fully refillable and have a replaceable flint, which means you're not binning plastic every few weeks. The round body fits comfortably in your hand, and the oval shape means it won't roll off a table the way a cheap disposable does. We've sold thousands of these over the years and the return rate is basically zero.

The hidden feature most people don't know about until someone shows them: pull the flint wheel upward and the entire assembly slides out. That metal poker is exactly the right size for packing down a cone or clearing a blocked pipe bowl. It's one of those design details that makes you wonder why every lighter doesn't do this. Clipper didn't patent it by accident — they knew their audience.

The honest limitation? The spark wheel can feel stiff out of the box. Give it a few flicks and it loosens up. Compared to a BIC, the flame is slightly smaller on default setting, but you can adjust it with the dial on the base. If you want a torch-style jet flame, this isn't it — grab a jet lighter instead. But for everyday use, rolling, and bowl lighting, a Clipper is the best lighter under a fiver, full stop.

What You Get — Love Martians Design Series

The Love Martians collection features cartoon-style alien characters in romantic scenarios — think little green figures with hearts, flowers, and the kind of goofy charm that makes people comment on your lighter at a party. Each lighter in the series has a different illustration, and the colours are bold enough to spot across a room.

All Clippers are sold individually. The specific design is selected at random from the Love Martians range. If you order more than one, our warehouse team will do their best to send you a varied selection so you don't end up with four identical aliens holding roses. No guarantees, but they're good at it.

Complete your setup: pair a Clipper with a metal rolling tray to keep your station tidy, or grab a can of universal butane refill gas so your lighter never runs dry. If you're after something windproof for outdoor use, check out the Clipper Jet Flame range — same refillable body, but with a torch-style blue flame.

How to Use a Clipper Lighter

  1. Hold the lighter in your dominant hand with your thumb resting on the spark wheel and your index finger supporting the back of the body.
  2. Roll the spark wheel firmly downward with your thumb while pressing the gas lever. A soft flame should appear on the first or second strike.
  3. Adjust the flame height using the small dial on the base of the lighter — turn clockwise for a smaller flame, anticlockwise for larger.
  4. To use the built-in poker tool, grip the spark wheel assembly and pull it straight upward. The entire flint housing slides out, giving you a thin metal rod for tamping or clearing.
  5. Push the flint assembly back in until it clicks into place when you're done.
  6. To refill, turn the lighter upside down and insert the nozzle of a standard butane refill can into the valve at the base. Press firmly for 3–5 seconds. Wait 2–3 minutes before igniting to let the gas settle and reach room temperature.
  7. To replace the flint, pull out the flint assembly, remove the old flint, drop in a new Clipper-compatible flint, and reinsert the assembly.
