Clipper 420 Rainbow Lighter
The Clipper 420 Rainbow is a refillable, nylon-bodied lighter built specifically for smokers who actually use their lighter as a tool — not just a flame source. Its barrel diameter doubles as a tamper for pipes and cones, and the removable flint assembly gives you a built-in poker for packing joints. Sold individually with a randomly selected 420 Rainbow design.

Why a Clipper Lighter Belongs in Your Pocket
Most disposable lighters are dead weight after a week. The gas runs out, the wheel stops sparking, and they crack if you drop them on a tile floor. You end up buying another one, and another, and the cycle never stops. We've watched customers go through three or four cheap lighters a month for years.
The Clipper solves all of that in one go. The nylon body is genuinely tough — drop it on concrete and it lands flat on its base, upright, no cracks, no explosion risk. When the gas runs low, you flip it over and refill with standard butane. When the flint wears down (and it will, eventually — that's the one consumable), you pull out the entire flint assembly, unscrew the base, drop in a new Clipper flint, and you're back in business. One lighter, indefinitely. That's less plastic in the bin and less money spent on throwaways.
The honest limitation: the flame isn't windproof. If you're sparking up outdoors in a Dutch November gale, you'll need to cup your hand around it. For indoor use, balcony sessions, and anything that isn't a storm, it's perfectly reliable. If wind is your main problem, a jet-flame lighter is the better pick — but you lose the tamping features.
How the Clipper Works as a Smoking Tool
This is the bit that separates a Clipper from every other lighter in the shop. It's not just a flame — it's a multi-tool for smokers.
- The barrel of the Clipper has a diameter that fits snugly into standard pipe bowls and pre-rolled cones. Press it gently into packed herb to tamp it down evenly. No more fishing around for a pen cap or your thumb.
- Pull the flint wheel upwards and the entire flint assembly slides out. That thin metal rod is your poker — use it to clear a clogged bowl, push down a stubborn roach, or pack the end of a freshly rolled joint so nothing falls out. We use this feature daily in the shop.
- To light, flick the wheel as normal. The Clipper uses a round flame rather than a tall one, which means less singed eyebrow when you're lighting a bowl close to your face. Small detail, big difference.
- When the gas runs low, flip the lighter over. Insert the nozzle of a standard butane refill canister into the valve at the base. Press down for 3–5 seconds. Done — another 3,000 ignitions ready to go.
- When the spark weakens, grip the flint wheel and pull the assembly straight out. Unscrew the small base of the assembly, remove the old flint, drop in a replacement Clipper flint (sold separately in packs), and reassemble. Takes about 30 seconds.
What the 420 Rainbow Series Looks Like
Each Clipper in the 420 Rainbow range features a different design from the series — expect bold rainbow colour schemes with 420-themed graphics. The specific design you receive is randomly selected from whatever's currently in stock at our warehouse. If you order more than one, the team will do their best to send you different designs so you're not stuck with duplicates. No guarantees on that, but they've been pretty good about it in our experience.
The feel in your hand is lightweight but solid — the nylon has a slight texture to it, not slippery like the cheap plastic lighters you get at petrol stations. It's noticeably sturdier. You can feel the difference when you flick the wheel, too: there's a satisfying resistance, not the loose rattle of a disposable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Clipper 420 Rainbow lighter refillable?
Yes. Every Clipper is refillable with standard butane gas. Flip it over, insert the butane canister nozzle into the base valve, and press for a few seconds. You get roughly 3,000 ignitions per fill.
Can I replace the flint in a Clipper lighter?
Absolutely. Pull the flint assembly out by gripping the wheel and sliding upwards. Unscrew the small base, swap the old flint for a new Clipper-compatible flint, and reassemble. The whole process takes under a minute.
Why does the Clipper land upright when dropped?
The weight distribution in the nylon body is designed so the base is heavier than the top. Drop it and it rights itself on impact. The nylon construction also means it won't crack or explode on hard surfaces — unlike brittle disposable lighters.
Can I choose which 420 Rainbow design I get?
No — designs are selected randomly from current stock. If you order multiple Clippers, the warehouse will try to send different designs, but specific selections aren't possible.
Is a Clipper lighter good for use with bongs and pipes?
It's one of the best options. The barrel diameter fits standard bowls for tamping, and the removable flint poker helps clear blocked downstems. The round flame also gives you more control when cornering a bowl.
How long does a Clipper lighter last?
With refills and flint replacements, indefinitely. The nylon body doesn't degrade with normal use.
Is the Clipper flame windproof?
No. The standard Clipper uses a soft flame, which wind can blow out. For windy conditions, a jet-flame lighter is more practical — but you lose the tamping and poker features that make the Clipper useful as a smoking tool.
