Gelato-K Feminised Cannabis Seeds by Kannabia

Gelato-K is a feminised cannabis seed from Kannabia that crosses two heavyweight US genetics — the dessert-flavoured Gelato from California and the deeply sedating Bubba Kush — into a sativa-leaning hybrid that flowers fast and yields big. With 20% THC, sweet lemon-sorbet flavours, and buds that turn blue and violet as harvest approaches, this is one of those strains that looks as good as it smokes. Kannabia calls her "The Beautiful Girl," and honestly, when you see those colours develop in week eight, you'll understand why.

Running Gelato-K indoors? Pair her with a quality grow tent and carbon filter — those resinous buds throw off serious aroma from mid-flower onwards, and your neighbours don't need to know about your hobby. A decent pH meter is worth grabbing too, since getting your feed dialled in is what separates a good harvest from a great one.

Why Gelato-K Cannabis Seeds Deserve a Spot in Your Grow

We've been stocking Kannabia seeds for years, and Gelato-K is one of those strains that keeps coming back into conversations. The genetics speak for themselves: Gelato brings the Cookies lineage — that creamy, dessert-shop flavour profile that made California strains famous — while Bubba Kush adds structural density and a physical relaxation component that rounds out the effect. The result is a sativa hybrid that doesn't leave you wired or anxious. Instead, you get something that's as invigorating as it is calming — a proper balanced smoke with 20% THC behind it.

What makes Gelato-K stand out from other Gelato crosses is the flowering speed. A lot of sativa-dominant strains drag out to 12 or even 14 weeks in flower, which tests your patience and your electricity bill. Gelato-K wraps up in 8–10 weeks. That's indica-speed flowering from a plant that still gives you that uplifting sativa character. For indoor growers running multiple cycles per year, that's a meaningful difference — you could squeeze in an extra run compared to something like a Haze.

The one thing to watch: she grows medium-tall with a spiky structure, so if you're working in a smaller tent (120cm height or less), you'll want to top her early or run a short veg period. She's not unmanageable, but she's not a compact little indica bush either. Give her some headroom and she'll reward you with those stunning blue and violet buds that make Gelato-K one of the best-looking plants you'll ever grow.

Flavour and Effect: What Gelato-K Actually Smokes Like

Open a jar of cured Gelato-K and you get hit with sweet, fruity tones — think ripe berries and citrus zest layered over something creamy. Light it up and the lemon sorbet notes come through clearly on the exhale. It's a complex flavour that changes slightly as the joint burns down, moving from bright citrus into deeper, sweeter territory. If you've smoked Gelato before, you'll recognise the family resemblance immediately, but the Bubba Kush parentage adds an earthy undertone that the original Gelato doesn't have.

The effect is where the Gelato x Bubba Kush combination really shows its worth. You get an initial lift — clear-headed, energetic, the kind of smoke that makes music sound better and conversations more interesting. Then the Bubba Kush side rolls in gradually, loosening up your body without putting you on the sofa. At 20% THC, it's strong enough to satisfy experienced smokers but not so overwhelming that it floors you. We'd call it a solid all-rounder: good for an afternoon session, good for a creative evening, good for switching off after work without actually switching off your brain.

Compared to something like a pure Bubba Kush, Gelato-K keeps you functional. Compared to a pure Gelato, she adds a physical warmth that the original sometimes lacks. That's the sweet spot Kannabia was aiming for, and they've nailed it.

How to Grow Gelato-K Feminised Seeds

  1. Germinate your Gelato-K seeds using the paper towel method or directly in a small pot of moist, lightly fertilised soil. Keep temperatures between 22–26°C and expect taproots within 24–72 hours.
  2. Transplant seedlings into their final containers once they've developed 2–3 sets of true leaves. Gelato-K responds well to 11-litre pots indoors or directly into the ground outdoors.
  3. During vegetative growth, keep your light cycle at 18/6. She grows medium-tall with a spiky structure, so consider topping once above the 5th node to encourage lateral branching and an even canopy. Low-stress training (LST) works well too.
  4. Flip to 12/12 when the plant has filled roughly 60–70% of your available canopy space. Gelato-K will stretch a bit during the first two weeks of flower, so account for that vertical growth.
  5. During flowering (8–10 weeks), maintain temperatures around 20–24°C during lights-on and drop to 18–20°C during lights-off. The cooler night temperatures help bring out those blue and violet colours she's famous for.
  6. Keep relative humidity below 50% from week 5 of flower onwards. Those dense, resinous buds are beautiful but they can trap moisture — good airflow is critical to prevent mould.
  7. Harvest when trichomes are mostly milky with about 10–20% amber. Indoors, expect around 500g/m² under a proper setup. Outdoors, plants can produce up to 650g each, with harvest falling in October.
  8. Dry slowly in a dark room at 18–20°C and 55–60% humidity for 10–14 days, then cure in glass jars for at least two weeks. The lemon sorbet flavour develops significantly during a proper cure — don't rush this part.

The Bubba Kush parentage is what sets Gelato-K apart from most Gelato crosses on the market. Where many breeders cross Gelato with other Cookies-family strains (which keeps the flavour similar but doesn't add much new), Kannabia went in a different direction. Bubba Kush contributes structural density, faster flowering, and that tranquil physical component without dragging the whole experience into couch-lock territory. It's a smarter cross than it first appears.
