Shogun Cannabis Seeds by Royal Queen Seeds

Shogun is a sativa-dominant feminised cannabis seed from Royal Queen Seeds that crosses Amnesia Haze with Gorilla Glue (GG4) to produce a focused, energising plant with 25% THC. Named after the Japanese military commanders famed for razor-sharp discipline, this strain channels that same intensity into productive growing sessions and impressive yields. With 70% sativa and 30% indica genetics, Shogun delivers the best of both worlds: the towering resin production of GG4 and the classic sativa structure of Amnesia Haze.

1 seed1Test run — see how she behaves in your setup before committing
3 seeds3Small indoor grow, 1m² or less
5 seeds5Full indoor tent or small outdoor plot
10 seeds10Serious growers who want pheno selection or a full outdoor garden

We'd go with the 3-pack if you're growing indoors for the first time with this strain. Shogun is fairly forgiving, but having a spare seed or two means you're covered if germination doesn't go your way.

Shogun Genetics: Amnesia Haze Meets Gorilla Glue

The parentage here is genuinely interesting. Royal Queen Seeds crossed two heavyweights that you wouldn't normally expect to pair well — and the result works. Amnesia Haze brings the sativa backbone: tall growth, long internodal spacing, and that classic cerebral character. Gorilla Glue (GG4) was chosen specifically for its resin production and its ability to push THC content skyward. The offspring sits at 25% THC, which puts Shogun firmly in the upper tier of photoperiod feminised seeds.

The 70/30 sativa-indica split means you get sativa-leaning growth patterns without the unmanageable stretch that pure sativas are notorious for. Indoors, she tops out at around 140cm — tall enough to fill a tent canopy, short enough that you won't be fighting her into the light footprint with aggressive training. That said, she does stretch during early flower, so flip to 12/12 before she hits half your available headroom. We've seen growers get caught out by this one.

Shogun Feminised Seeds: Indoor and Outdoor Yield Specs

Shogun produces dense clusters of smaller buds rather than single massive colas. Every bud site gets coated in trichomes — the GG4 influence is obvious here. When you handle the dried flower, your fingers stick. That resin coverage is what drives the 25% THC content.

Those indoor numbers — 550 to 600g per square metre — are solid for a sativa-dominant strain. Most pure sativas struggle to break 500g/m² without expert-level canopy management. Shogun gets there with a standard SCRoG or LST setup. Outdoors, 650 to 750g per plant is realistic in a warm Mediterranean-type climate, though she'll still produce respectable results in cooler northern European conditions as long as autumn stays dry through October.

Why Shogun Seeds Deserve Space in Your Grow

There are a lot of sativa-dominant seeds on the market. What sets Shogun apart is the combination of manageable height, high THC, and genuinely impressive yield. Most sativa-leaning strains force you to choose two of those three — Shogun gives you all of them.

The Amnesia Haze parentage means she responds well to topping and training. You can top her once at the 4th or 5th node and she'll bush out nicely, filling a 1m² canopy with 2-3 plants. The indica influence from GG4 keeps the internodal spacing reasonable during flower, so you're not dealing with airy, stretched-out buds that take forever to dry.

The honest limitation? That 9-to-11-week flowering window. At the shorter end, you're looking at a fast sativa finish. At the longer end, you're testing your patience — and your electricity bill. Most phenotypes we've heard about from growers lean towards the 10-week mark. If you're used to 8-week indicas, budget an extra fortnight and don't rush the chop. Trichome colour is your friend here: wait for mostly cloudy with a few amber heads.

Compared to Royal Queen Seeds' Amnesia Haze (the parent strain sold separately), Shogun trades a small amount of that classic Haze stretch for significantly higher resin production and a more compact plant. If you want the Haze character but don't have a 2-metre-tall grow space, Shogun is the better pick.

How to Grow Shogun Cannabis Seeds

  1. Germinate using the paper towel method or directly in a starter plug. Shogun seeds typically crack within 24-72 hours at 22-25°C. Keep the medium moist, not soaked.
  2. Transplant seedlings into their final container once the first set of true leaves appears. A 15-20 litre pot works well for indoor grows; outdoor plants benefit from 30 litres or direct soil.
  3. Veg under 18/6 light for 4-5 weeks. Top once at the 4th or 5th node to encourage lateral branching. Shogun responds well to LST — tie down the main branches to open up the canopy.
  4. Flip to 12/12 when the plant reaches roughly half your target final height. Expect a 50-70% stretch during the first 2-3 weeks of flower. Adjust your light height accordingly.
  5. Feed a balanced bloom nutrient from week 2 of flower. Shogun is a hungry plant — she'll show calcium and magnesium deficiency quickly if you're running coco without a cal-mag supplement.
  6. Monitor trichomes from week 8 onwards. Harvest when trichomes are mostly cloudy with 10-15% amber for the focused, energetic character this strain is known for. Waiting longer shifts the effect towards a heavier body feel.
  7. Dry in a dark room at 18-20°C and 55-60% humidity for 10-14 days. Cure in glass jars for at least 2 weeks — the terpene profile develops noticeably with proper curing.

Running Shogun in a tent? Pair these seeds with a complete grow kit that includes lighting, ventilation, and a carbon filter — everything she needs to reach that 550-600g/m² potential. If you're growing in coco, grab a cal-mag supplement separately; Shogun drinks the stuff.
