The RAW Metal Rolling Tray Skate Deck is a 42cm pressed metal rolling tray shaped like a graffiti-tagged skateboard — the biggest tray RAW makes, with enough surface to grind, roll, and load vaporizers without a single crumb going over the side. Sits flat on your lap like an actual deck, wipes clean in seconds, and honestly looks good enough to leave out on the coffee table between sessions.

Why this metal rolling tray skate deck earns its spot

At 42 centimetres long, this is the biggest tray RAW puts out — roughly the length of a mini cruiser deck and nearly three times the surface area of the Vibes medium tray (27.9 × 15.2cm). That extra real estate is the whole point. You can lay out a grinder, a king-size pack of papers, tips, a lighter, and still have room to work without elbowing everything off the edge.

The pressed metal construction is rigid enough that it doesn't flex when you're grinding directly on it, but light enough to actually hold on your lap. The curved raised lip runs the whole perimeter — we've had customers ask whether it's deep enough to stop shake and kief migrating onto the sofa, and yes, it is. Anything that rolls, rolls back toward the middle rather than into the carpet fibres where you'll never see it again.

The graffiti artwork is loud on purpose. RAW designed this to be visible — prop it against the bookshelf, hang it on a wall hook, or leave it on the coffee table. It reads as display art until you flip it over and start using it.

Who the 42cm skate deck tray is for

This is the right pick if you roll at home, share sessions with more than one person, or load vaporiser chambers that need space to manoeuvre. If you're a commuter who rolls on the train, grab something pocketable instead — 42cm is a lot of tray to lug around. But if your rolling setup lives on a coffee table or a desk, going bigger once means you stop fighting for space every session.

It's also the tray we'd recommend if you're the designated roller in a group. Two or three people can work off this surface at once without tangling grinders and papers together. Smaller trays force a queue; this one doesn't.

What makes the RAW skate deck different

RAW makes rolling trays in about a dozen shapes and sizes — the classic rectangle, the mini, the round, the backflip with folding legs. The skate deck is the outlier: it's the only one shaped like something you'd actually find in a skate shop, and it's the longest they produce. Compared to the standard RAW Classic Large (34 × 27.5cm), you get more length but less width — a different working geometry that suits laying out long items like papers and pre-rolls rather than clustering everything in a square.

Complete your setup with a set of RAW Classic King Size papers and a four-piece metal grinder — both sit comfortably on the 42cm deck with room to spare. Pairs well with a RAW rolling mat if you want to protect the graffiti print from grinder scratches over time.

How to use your metal rolling tray

  1. Sit the tray flat on your lap, a coffee table, or a desk — the raised lip needs a level surface to do its job.
  2. Lay your papers along the long axis of the deck; there's enough length for king-size papers to sit fully flat.
  3. Grind directly on the metal surface or over a grinder catch — the pressed metal handles both without denting.
  4. Keep your grinder, tips, lighter, and filters grouped at one end so you've got clear working space at the other.
  5. When you're done, tip any leftover shake into a jar, then wipe the tray with a dry cloth. A damp cloth works for stickier residue — dry it straight after so the print stays crisp.
  6. Store flat or hang it on the wall. Don't stack heavy objects on top; the pressed metal is rigid but not armour.

Honest limitations

Two things worth flagging. First, pressed metal will show scratches over time — if you grind hard directly on the surface, the graffiti print will eventually wear where your grinder sits. A rolling mat solves this, or you embrace the patina. Second, at 42cm this isn't a travel tray. It won't fit in most backpacks without sticking out, and it's not the tool for rolling on the go. For that, look at the RAW Mini or a pocket-size option instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a rolling tray used for?

A rolling tray gives you a contained, flat workspace to grind herb, roll papers, and keep your accessories organised. The raised edges catch shake, kief, and tips so nothing ends up on the carpet. It also doubles as a portable station you can move between rooms.

How big is the RAW Metal Rolling Tray Skate Deck?

It's 42cm long — the largest tray RAW makes and shaped like a skateboard deck. That's roughly the length of a mini cruiser board, which gives you enough room for a grinder, king-size papers, tips, and a lighter with space left to work.

Is the metal tray easy to clean?

Yes. Tip leftover shake into a jar, then wipe the surface with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Dry it afterwards to protect the graffiti print. Avoid abrasive scrubbers — they'll wear the artwork over time.

Can you use the tray for loading vaporisers?

Absolutely — that's one reason the extra surface area matters. You can lay out your vaporiser, loading tool, and ground herb on the same tray without fighting for space. The raised lip catches any stray material that falls off the loading tool.

Does it work as a lap tray?

Yes. The skate deck shape sits flat on your lap the same way an actual board does, and the pressed metal is rigid enough that it doesn't flex under a grinder. It's one of the more comfortable lap trays we carry thanks to that length-over-width geometry.

How does it compare to other RAW trays?

This is the biggest and the only skate-deck-shaped tray RAW produces. The RAW Classic Large is wider but shorter (34 × 27.5cm); the Mini fits in a drawer. The skate deck wins on length and visual impact — it's the one designed to be seen, not hidden.
