S.A.D. S1 (Sweet Afgani Delicious S1) is a feminized indica-dominant cannabis seed from Sweet Seeds, crossing pure Afghan genetics with a self-inbred Black Domina. If you want a compact, mould-resistant plant that practically grows itself — this is the one Valencia crowned back in 1998 and again at the second Valencian Cannabis Cup in 2004.

Feminized Indica-dominant 9 weeks flowering Up to 500g outdoor THC 15–20% 18+ only

Why growers keep coming back to S.A.D. S1

S.A.D. S1 is a feminized indica hybrid that rewards low-maintenance growing with heavy, aromatic buds. The Afghan x Black Domina'98 genetics mean you get two things most growers actually want: mould resistance and a Christmas-tree structure that fits tight spaces. We've had customers pop these on a balcony in Amsterdam's damp September and still pull a proper harvest — the Indica-dominant genes shrug off humidity and mildew that would wreck a fussier sativa.

The plants stay compact, branch thickly, and the leaves come out short and dark green, often with a purple streak near finish. Buds are dense, resinous, and carry a classic Afghan aroma — earthy, hashy, with a sweet kick on the exhale. THC sits in the 15–20% range, producing a soft relaxing social high rather than a couch-lock knockout. It's the kind of bud you pass around with mates, not the one that ends the evening.

Which variant: 3 seeds or 5 seeds?

Both packs contain the same feminized S.A.D. S1 genetics — the only difference is how many you get.

PackSKUBest for
3 seedsCSSW0014First-time growers testing the strain, or small-space grows with 1–2 plants in rotation
5 seedsCSSW0115Full tent runs, outdoor growers wanting backup seedlings, better per-seed value

If it's your first run with Sweet Seeds, the 3-pack is plenty. If you're filling an 80x80 tent or planning an outdoor plot, grab the 5 — germination rates are solid but you always want a spare.

What to expect in the grow room

S.A.D. S1 takes 9 weeks to flower indoors, which is slightly longer than the average 7–8 week indica — but the payoff is worth the extra fortnight. Outdoor harvest lands in the first half of September across most of Europe, and a healthy plant can deliver up to 500g of good-quality dried flower. The compact Christmas-tree shape means you don't need to top aggressively to keep the canopy even.

Complete your setup: pair S.A.D. S1 with an 80x80 Dark Box grow tent and a carbon filter kit — the compact structure fits smaller tents without fuss, and the carbon filter handles the heavy Afghan aroma during the final fortnight of flower. A basic germination kit (paper towels or jiffy pellets) gets you a cleaner start than dropping seeds straight into soil.

How to grow S.A.D. S1 for best results

  1. Germinate seeds in damp paper towel or a jiffy pellet at 20–25°C until the taproot reaches 1–2cm.
  2. Transplant carefully into small pots with light, airy soil. Keep the seedling under 18 hours of light for the vegetative phase.
  3. Veg for 3–4 weeks indoors. Thanks to the compact structure, you won't need heavy training — a light topping or LST is enough.
  4. Switch to 12/12 light cycle to trigger flowering. Expect 9 weeks before harvest.
  5. Watch humidity in weeks 6–9. S.A.D. S1 is mould-resistant, but dense buds still benefit from 40–50% RH and decent airflow.
  6. Outdoor: transplant after the last frost, harvest in the first two weeks of September across central and northern Europe.
  7. Flush with plain water for the final 10–14 days, then harvest when 70–80% of pistils have darkened.
  8. Dry slow at 18°C and 55% RH for 10–14 days, then cure in glass jars for at least 2 weeks for the full aroma to come through.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the "S1" in S.A.D. S1 mean?

S1 stands for "selfed first generation" — seeds produced by self-pollinating a single female plant. This locks in the mother's traits and produces stable feminized genetics, so nearly every seed grows into a female plant.

Is S.A.D. S1 good for beginners?

Yes. The compact structure, high mould resistance, and forgiving Afghan genetics make it one of the easier feminized strains to grow. Beginners running their first indoor tent or a small outdoor plot should get a decent harvest without advanced training techniques.

How long does S.A.D. S1 take to flower?

Indoors, S.A.D. S1 flowers in 9 weeks under 12/12 light. Outdoors, it's ready to harvest in the first half of September in most European climates. That's slightly longer than the average indica but typical for Black Domina-lineage strains.

What's the THC content and effect?

THC sits between 15–20%. The effect is a soft, relaxing, social high — not a heavy couch-lock. It's the kind of indica you can still hold a conversation on, which is why it's picked up awards as a favourite plant rather than a knockout strain.

Can I grow S.A.D. S1 outdoors in a wet climate?

Yes — this is one of its strengths. The Indica-dominant genetics give high resistance to mould and mildew, so damp northern European summers won't wreck the harvest the way they would with more sensitive sativa hybrids. Outdoor yields reach up to 500g per plant in good conditions.

Has S.A.D. S1 won any awards?

Yes. It was selected as Favourite Plant of Valencia in 1998 and took second place at the 2004 Valencian Cannabis Cup, organised by Barraca de María. It's been a consistent performer on the Spanish cup circuit for over two decades.
