Lemon Skunk is a feminised photoperiod cannabis seed from Royal Queen Seeds that crosses two legendary parents — Skunk #1 and Citral — into one citrus-drenched, easy-growing hybrid. If you've ever wanted a strain that basically grows itself while filling the room with that unmistakable lemon-and-earth funk, this is where you start. Available in packs of 1, 3, 5, or 10 seeds.

How Many Seeds Do You Need?

Pack of 1 — test run for a single plant, good if you want to see how Lemon Skunk behaves in your setup before committing. Pack of 3 — enough for a small indoor tent or a few pots on the balcony. Pack of 5 — the sweet spot for most growers filling an 80x80 or 100x100 tent. Pack of 10 — best value per seed if you're running a full room or want to pheno-hunt for the lemoniest keeper.

Why Lemon Skunk Seeds Deserve a Spot in Your Garden

We've been stocking Royal Queen Seeds since the early days, and Lemon Skunk is one of those strains that just never leaves the catalogue — for good reason. While newer genetics grab headlines, this one quietly delivers every single run. The parentage is rock-solid: Skunk #1 brought the vigour, the structure, and that unmistakable dank base note. Citral layered in sharp lemon zest and resin production. The result is a balanced 50/50 hybrid that grows like an indica but stretches just enough in flower to develop properly spaced, light-catching colas.

What we genuinely appreciate about this strain is how forgiving it is. First-time growers can leave her alone and still pull a respectable harvest. If you've got a few grows under your belt, she responds brilliantly to low-stress training, ScrOG, or topping — the stocky side branches fill out a net beautifully. She's not fussy about medium either: soil, coco, hydro, she doesn't care. That's the Skunk lineage doing its thing.

The honest limitation? She's not going to win any novelty contests. There are no exotic terpene profiles or purple fade genetics here. This is a straightforward, no-nonsense Skunk cross that does exactly what it says. If you want Instagram-worthy colours, look at something like Royal Queen Seeds' Purple Queen instead. But if you want reliable weight and classic flavour, Lemon Skunk is hard to beat.

Aroma, Flavour, and What to Expect from Lemon Skunk Buds

Crack open a jar of dried Lemon Skunk and the first thing that hits you is sharp, almost candy-like lemon peel — bright and unmistakable. Underneath that citrus punch sits the classic earthy, musky skunk base that anyone who grew up around old-school genetics will recognise immediately. It's not subtle. Your carbon filter earns its keep with this one, especially in the last two weeks of flower when the trichomes really frost up.

The buds themselves grow big, bright green, and dense, coated in a visible layer of frosty trichomes with swollen calyxes. They're satisfying to trim — not too leafy, not too tight. When properly dried and cured, the lemon note deepens and the skunk backbone rounds out into something genuinely moreish. According to a study examining consumer perceptions of cannabis strain differences, citrus-dominant varieties like Lemon Skunk consistently score high on both perceived potency and consumer interest (Fischedick, 2017).

User reports collected in a 2018 examination of strain-specific experiences noted that Lemon Skunk was frequently mentioned in positive terms for mood and general wellbeing, with one respondent stating it "definitely felt it helped with anxiety and depression" — though individual responses vary widely (Stith et al., 2018). We'd always suggest starting low with any new strain and seeing how you get on before increasing.

How to Grow Lemon Skunk Cannabis Seeds

  1. Germination: Soak seeds in a glass of room-temperature water for 12-24 hours, then transfer to damp paper towels between two plates. Taproots usually appear within 24-72 hours. Plant taproot-down into your chosen medium at roughly 1 cm depth.
  2. Vegetative phase: Lemon Skunk grows into a sturdy, medium-height plant with large fan leaves and thick side branches. Give her 18-20 hours of light. She responds well to topping above the 4th or 5th node if you want to encourage lateral growth. In a ScrOG setup, weave branches through the net during weeks 3-5 of veg for an even canopy.
  3. Flip to flower: Switch to 12/12 when plants reach about half your target final height — she'll stretch moderately during the first 2-3 weeks of bloom. Indoor heights settle between 80-120 cm. Outdoors, she'll naturally begin flowering as daylight drops in late summer, reaching 120-150 cm.
  4. Flowering and feeding: Over 8-9 weeks of bloom, buds swell steadily. She's not a heavy feeder but appreciates a PK boost from week 4-5 onwards. Watch humidity in the final weeks — those dense buds can hold moisture. Keep relative humidity below 50% to avoid issues.
  5. Harvest: Indoors, check trichomes from week 8 with a jeweller's loupe — mostly cloudy with a few amber is the sweet spot. Outdoors, aim for late September. Expect 600-650 g/m2 under lights or a generous 625-675 g/plant in the open air.
  6. Drying and curing: Hang whole branches in a dark room at 18-20 degrees Celsius with 55-60% humidity for 10-14 days. Once small stems snap rather than bend, trim and jar. Burp jars daily for the first two weeks. The lemon terpenes really develop after 3-4 weeks of cure.

Lemon Skunk vs Other Skunk Strains

If you're deciding between Lemon Skunk and other Skunk-family seeds in the catalogue, here's how they stack up:

StrainGeneticsFloweringIndoor yieldStandout trait
Lemon Skunk (RQS)Skunk #1 x Citral8-9 weeks600-650 g/m2Sharp lemon citrus aroma
Skunk XL (RQS)Skunk #1 x Afghan7-8 weeks600-650 g/m2Faster finish, more earthy
Blue Cheese (RQS)Blueberry x UK Cheese7-8 weeks500-550 g/m2Fruity-cheese funk, more indica

Lemon Skunk sits right in the middle of the Skunk family — not the fastest, not the slowest, but arguably the most aromatic. If you want pure speed, Skunk XL shaves a week off. If you want something with a completely different flavour direction but similar ease of growing, Blue Cheese is worth a look. We'd pick Lemon Skunk specifically when the grower wants that citrus-forward profile without sacrificing yield.

Growing Lemon Skunk indoors? Pair these seeds with a complete grow tent kit to get your setup sorted in one go. A carbon filter is non-negotiable with this strain — the skunk terps are loud from week 5 of flower onwards. If you're growing in soil, a good organic nutrient kit will keep feeding simple through both veg and bloom.
