Kannabia CBG Auto is an autoflowering cannabis seed strain that produces buds dominated by cannabigerol — the so-called "mother cannabinoid" — with very low THC. Bred by Spanish seed bank Kannabia, this is one of the easier CBG-rich autos to grow at home, finishing in 57–63 days from seed and staying compact at 60–120cm. Good pick if you want a CBG-forward harvest without the headaches.
Why grow Kannabia's CBG Auto
Because CBG seeds that actually finish quickly and don't demand babysitting are rare. Cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) is the precursor that the plant converts into THCA and CBDA as it matures — so to harvest a CBG-rich plant, breeders have to lock the genetics before that conversion kicks in. Kannabia did the work. You get a robust autoflower that pumps out resinous, sweet-floral buds with cannabigerol as the headline cannabinoid and barely any THC riding along.
According to a 2022 review in Pharmacological Aspects and Biological Effects of Cannabigerol, CBG has been studied for antioxidant, antitumoral, anti-anxiety and appetite-stimulating activities (Calapai et al., 2022). A 2022 paper in Antioxidants reported that biosynthetically produced CBG showed "a broad range of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and skin-protecting properties" in vitro (Perez et al., 2022). Research on CBG is still early stage — but interest from cultivators is growing fast, and this strain is one of the cleaner ways into it.
What CBG Auto actually grows like
She's a short, bushy autoflower that runs from seed to harvest in roughly 8–9 weeks. Plants top out between 60cm and 120cm depending on pot size and light — small enough for a 60x60 tent, sturdy enough for a balcony.
The bushiness is the only thing to watch. A bit of light training or a few snips through the lower canopy keeps airflow open and prevents the inside of the plant going dark. She's resistant to pests and mould, which is why we'd recommend her over fussier CBD-dominant autos for first-time outdoor growers. Cured buds smell sweet and floral — not skunky, not loud — which is a bonus if you're growing somewhere discreet.

CBG vs CBD vs THC — what's actually different
CBG is non-intoxicating, like CBD, but it's a different molecule with a different receptor profile. All three start life as CBGA in the plant; enzymes then convert it into THCA, CBDA or CBCA depending on the strain's genetics. A CBG-dominant strain like this one skips most of that conversion, leaving you with cannabigerol as the main cannabinoid.
| Strain type | Main cannabinoid | Intoxicating? | Best for cultivators who want… |
|---|---|---|---|
| THC-dominant | THC (typically 15–25%) | Yes | Classic recreational buds |
| CBD-dominant | CBD (often 8–15%) | No | Calming, well-studied non-intoxicating buds |
| CBG-dominant (this one) | CBG | No | A rarer, research-relevant cannabinoid with sweet-floral aromatics |
How to grow Kannabia CBG Auto at home
- Germinate the seed between damp kitchen paper or in a glass of lukewarm water for 24–48 hours, until a white taproot shows.
- Plant 1–2cm deep in her final pot. Autoflowers hate transplanting — pick a 11–18 litre fabric pot and leave her there.
- Run 18–20 hours of light from day one, indoors. Outdoors, sow after the last frost so she gets full daylight from the start.
- Water lightly until the roots establish, then increase as the canopy fills out. Don't overfeed — autos need about half the nutrients a photoperiod plant does.
- Around week 3–4 she'll start flowering automatically. Light defoliation or a bit of LST keeps the bushy interior open.
- Watch trichomes from week 7. Harvest when most are cloudy and a few have turned amber — usually day 57–63 from germination.
- Dry slow at 18–20°C and 55–60% humidity for 10–14 days, then cure in glass jars for at least 2 weeks. Sweet and floral notes deepen in the cure.
Pairs well with a 60x60 or 80x80 grow tent, an 11–18 litre fabric pot, and a basic auto-friendly nutrient line. If you want to test what you've grown, a home cannabinoid testing kit is the only way to confirm the CBG-to-THC ratio in your finished buds.
Who this strain is for
First-time growers who want a non-intoxicating harvest. Experienced growers curious about cannabigerol. Anyone who likes the idea of cultivating cannabis but doesn't want a strong THC end product. The short life cycle, pest resistance and modest height make her one of the more forgiving CBG-rich autoflowers we've seen come through the shop.
Honest limitation: CBG-dominant strains generally yield less total cannabinoid mass than THC- or CBD-dominant strains. You're growing for the cannabinoid profile, not for record-breaking weight. If yield-per-plant is your only goal, a heavier CBD auto will give you more grams — but it won't be CBG.
This product is for adults aged 18 and over.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CBG make you feel high?
No. CBG (cannabigerol) is non-intoxicating, similar to CBD. It doesn't bind to the CB1 receptor the way THC does, so it doesn't produce the psychoactive effect associated with traditional cannabis.
How is CBG different from CBD?
Both are non-intoxicating cannabinoids, but they're different molecules with different receptor profiles. CBG is sometimes called the "mother cannabinoid" because CBGA is the precursor from which CBDA, THCA and other cannabinoids are biosynthesised in the plant.
How long does CBG Auto take from seed to harvest?
Roughly 57–63 days from germination. That's one of the shorter cycles in the autoflower category, which is why she's a solid pick for impatient or first-time growers.
Can I grow CBG Auto outdoors?
Yes. She's pest- and mould-resistant and stays compact at 60–120cm, which makes her a strong outdoor candidate. Sow after the last frost so she catches full daylight from day one.
How much THC does CBG Auto contain?
Very low. Kannabia bred her specifically to lock in CBG before the plant converts CBGA into THCA, so the THC content stays minimal. If you want exact percentages from your own harvest, a home cannabinoid test is the only reliable way to check.
How many seeds are in a pack?
Five feminised autoflowering seeds per pack. All five are autoflower, so there's no need to flip a light cycle — they'll start flowering on their own around week 3–4.
