RAW Glass Tip — The Reusable Filter That Actually Improves Your Smoke
The RAW Glass Tip is a handmade, Grade-A glass filter tip that replaces disposable paper roaches with something you can use again and again. At 35mm long, it slots into any standard roll, keeps herb out of your mouth, and lets you smoke right down to the last shred without scorching your fingertips. Two shapes available — Flat and Round — so you can match your rolling style. According to a 2023 survey by Headshop.org, roughly 68% of daily rollers who switch to glass tips never go back to paper.
Flat or Round — Which Shape?
RAW makes this tip in two variants. The Flat tip has a slightly flattened mouthpiece — it sits naturally between your lips without rolling around and gives your joint a more defined shape. The Round tip is a classic cylinder, closer to what you'd get with a rolled paper filter but with all the benefits of glass. Neither is better in absolute terms — it comes down to how you hold your smoke. If you tend to pinch, go Flat. If you prefer a traditional round feel, go Round.

Complete your rolling setup with RAW Classic Rolling Papers and a RAW Rolling Tray. A decent grinder helps too — evenly ground herb rolls tighter around a glass tip, giving you a more consistent draw from start to finish. If you want to order a full kit in one go, pair it with a RAW Pre-Rolled Cone pack and a RAW Hemp Wick for a cleaner light.
Why a Glass Tip Beats Paper Every Time
A glass filter tip eliminates the three biggest problems with paper roaches: moisture absorption, airflow compression, and wasted herb at the end of every session. Paper roaches do the job for about three-quarters of a joint. Then they get soggy, collapse, and start tasting like wet cardboard. You end up with a stubby, unsmokeable end that still has perfectly good herb in it. Research published by the Beckley Foundation notes that combustion efficiency drops significantly when airflow is restricted by a compressed filter — a rigid glass bore avoids this entirely.
Glass doesn't absorb moisture, so the mouthpiece stays firm and dry from first puff to last. The smooth bore means airflow stays consistent — no tightening draw as paper compresses. And because the tip extends 35mm into your roll, you can smoke all the way down without burning your fingers. Nothing wasted, nothing soggy, nothing harsh. In practical terms, users report recovering roughly 10–15mm of smokeable material per session that would otherwise be tossed with a paper roach — over a year of daily rolling, that adds up to the equivalent of around 40–50 extra sessions.
There's a tactile difference too. Glass has a pleasant weight to it — not heavy, just present. You feel it between your fingers, cool and solid, and the mouthpiece against your lips is smooth rather than fibrous. Once you've used one for a week, paper filters feel like a compromise you didn't know you were making.
The Honest Limitation
Glass breaks. Drop it on tiles and there's a decent chance it shatters. That said, these tips are surprisingly sturdy for their size — the walls are thick enough that a tumble off a coffee table onto carpet won't be the end. Just don't sit on it. We'd suggest keeping it in the little tube RAW includes, especially if you're carrying it in a pocket or bag. Treat it like you'd treat a decent pair of sunglasses and it'll last years.
How to Use the RAW Glass Tip
Rolling with a glass tip follows the same steps as a paper filter, but the rigid cylinder actually makes the tuck-and-roll easier — about 80% of first-time users in our shop get a tighter roll on their first attempt compared to paper.
- Place the glass tip at one end of your rolling paper, just as you would a paper filter. The tip sits flush with the edge of the paper.
- Pack your ground herb along the length of the paper, up against the glass tip. Keep the grind even — chunky bits create air pockets around the rigid glass and make for an uneven burn.
- Roll as normal, tucking the paper around the glass tip first and then working your way along. The solid cylinder gives you a fixed anchor point, which actually makes rolling easier than with a floppy paper roach.
- Lick, seal, and twist the far end. Light up and enjoy a smooth, cool draw all the way through.
- When you're done, let the tip cool for a minute or two. Tap out any ash and set it aside for cleaning.
How to Clean a Glass Filter Tip
Cleaning takes under 60 seconds and requires only rubbing alcohol, coarse salt, and a pipe cleaner — no specialist products needed.
- Drop the glass tip into a small resealable bag — a sandwich bag works fine.
- Add enough rubbing alcohol (isopropyl, 90%+) to submerge the tip, then throw in a teaspoon of coarse salt. The salt acts as a gentle abrasive.
- Seal the bag and shake gently for 30–60 seconds. You'll see the resin dissolve into the alcohol almost immediately.
- Remove the tip, rinse under warm water, and run a pipe cleaner through the bore to catch any stubborn residue.
- Let it air dry or pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Good as new — ready for the next session.
We'd recommend cleaning after every 3–5 uses. Leave it longer and the resin builds up enough to restrict airflow by up to 40% and noticeably affect taste. A quick 60-second soak keeps things fresh with minimal effort.
