Super Silver Haze by Mr. Nice is a regular cannabis seed that delivers the original 1990s Skunk × Northern Lights × Haze cross from the breeders who actually built it — Shantibaba and Howard Marks. If you want the Haze that won three consecutive High Times Cannabis Cups (1997, 1998, 1999) from the genetic source rather than a re-worked feminised version, this is the pack you want. Fifteen regular seeds, in a 9–10 week flowering window, with the resin coverage that gave the strain its name.

What makes Mr. Nice Super Silver Haze different from every other SSH on the shelf

Mr. Nice Seeds is the bloodline. Shantibaba co-bred Super Silver Haze in the late '90s at Greenhouse Seeds before leaving to start Mr. Nice with the late Howard Marks, taking the original mother plants with him. So while you'll find Super Silver Haze offered by Greenhouse, Sensation, Amsterdam Genetics, Delicious and others — each with their own legitimate working of the cross — Mr. Nice's pack is the one running closest to the genetics that picked up those Cup wins.

The other thing that separates this pack: it's regular seeds, not feminised. Roughly half your plants will be male, half female. For a hobby grower chasing buds, that means popping more seeds than you need and culling the boys at pre-flower. For anyone breeding, hunting pheno, or making their own crosses, regulars are the only way in — and Mr. Nice is one of the few banks still selling the classic Haze cuts in regular form.

The cross, briefly

  • Northern Lights — the indica backbone, brings yield, resin production and shorter internodes
  • Original Haze — the sativa engine, brings the soaring head-high, the spicy-citrus terps and the long flower
  • Skunk — bridges the two, adds vigour and that unmistakable sweet-pungent note

Grow specs: what to expect in the tent

Super Silver Haze finishes in 9–10 weeks indoors, which is quick for a Haze-dominant sativa — most pure Hazes drag on past 12 weeks. Yields land around 500–600 g/m² indoors under solid light, and around 400 g per plant outdoors in a warm-Mediterranean type climate. Resin coverage is the headline trait: nugs come out looking dipped in sugar, which is exactly where the "Silver" in the name comes from.

How Mr. Nice SSH compares to the other Super Silver Haze options we carry

Mr. Nice runs the original Shantibaba-bred genetics in regular form — best if you want the bloodline or plan to breed. Sensation Seeds, Amsterdam Genetics and Greenhouse offer feminised versions — easier for a grower who just wants buds and doesn't want to sex plants. Delicious Seeds' Critical Super Silver Haze adds Critical genetics to shorten flower and bulk yield — best if you want Haze flavour on an 8-week timer. Super Silver Haze Auto crosses in ruderalis for an autoflower — best if you've got a small tent and no time for photoperiod scheduling.

None of them are "wrong" — they're different tools. We'd reach for the Mr. Nice pack if we cared about the lineage, and the feminised options if we just wanted to fill a 4-plant tent without coin-flipping on sex.

Effects and aroma — what growers and smokers report

Super Silver Haze is the classic sativa-leaning cup winner: an up, energetic head-high that lasts, with a soft body settle on the back end. According to Healthline's Sativa vs. Indica overview (2023), sativa-dominant hybrids like SSH are commonly associated with daytime use patterns rather than sedation, though they note clinical evidence for strain-effect categorisation remains limited. WebMD (2024) likewise points out that scientific evidence linking specific strains to specific outcomes is still slim — so treat strain-effect descriptions as community-reported, not clinical.

The aroma is the giveaway when you open the jar: spicy citrus first, then a sweet skunk underneath, with a faint incense note from the Haze side. A 2024 review in Pharmaceuticals (Ferber et al.) on the entourage effect notes that terpene profiles — not just THC content — drive much of how a strain feels, which lines up with why old-school Haze terps still get hunted decades later.

Honest limitation: SSH is not a beginner-friendly grow if you're new to sativas. The stretch after flip is significant — plan for plants doubling or tripling in height — and the long flower compared to indica-dominant strains means more weeks of watching for powdery mildew on dense colas. New growers tend to do better starting on something like Northern Lights solo before stepping up to a Haze cross.

How to germinate and grow Super Silver Haze regular seeds

  1. Germinate using your preferred method — paper towel between two plates at 22–25°C, or straight into damp rockwool/jiffy cubes. Tap roots usually show in 2–5 days.
  2. Pop more than you need. With regulars, expect roughly 50% females. To finish 4 female plants, germinate at least 8 seeds.
  3. Veg for 3–4 weeks under 18/6 light. SSH stretches hard, so keep veg shorter than you would for an indica.
  4. Flip to 12/12 and watch for pre-flowers around day 10–14. Pull the males as soon as you can sex them — usually by week 2 of flower.
  5. Train early. Topping at the 4th node and a light LST keeps the canopy even. SSH responds well to SCROG.
  6. Feed moderately. Hazes don't love heavy nitrogen in late veg — burnt tips are a giveaway you're pushing too hard.
  7. Harvest at 9–10 weeks when 70–80% of pistils have darkened and trichomes are mostly cloudy with a few amber. For a more up effect, pull earlier; for a heavier finish, wait.
  8. Dry slow. 60% RH, 18°C, 10–14 days. Cure in jars for at least 3 weeks — Haze terps open up dramatically with a proper cure.

Pairs well with: a SCROG net to manage the sativa stretch, a carbon filter (the spicy-skunk aroma is not subtle past week 4 of flower), and any of our seedling-stage propagation kits to get your germination rate up before you sex the regulars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Mr. Nice Super Silver Haze seeds feminised or regular?

Regular. This pack contains 15 non-feminised seeds, so roughly half will be male. If you want feminised SSH genetics, look at the Sensation, Greenhouse or Amsterdam Genetics versions instead.

Is Super Silver Haze suitable for beginners?

Not really our first pick for a first grow. The stretch is aggressive, the flower is 9–10 weeks, and regular seeds mean you need to sex plants. A first-time grower is usually happier on a feminised indica-dominant like Northern Lights before tackling a Haze.

What does Super Silver Haze smell like?

Spicy citrus up front, sweet skunk underneath, with an incense note on the back end from the original Haze parent. It's loud in flower — a carbon filter is not optional if you're sharing walls.

Why buy the Mr. Nice version specifically?

Shantibaba co-bred the original Super Silver Haze in the late '90s and took the mothers with him when he founded Mr. Nice Seeds with Howard Marks. This pack runs closest to the genetics that won three consecutive Cannabis Cups (1997–1999).

How long does Super Silver Haze take to flower?

9–10 weeks indoors under 12/12. Outdoors in the Netherlands and similar climates, expect to harvest late October. That's fast for a Haze cross — most pure Hazes run past 12 weeks.

What yield should I expect from Super Silver Haze?

Around 500–600 g/m² indoors under solid lighting and decent training, and roughly 400 g per plant outdoors in a warm climate. Resin coverage is the headline trait more than raw weight.
