Silver Haze Cannabis Seeds by Sensi Seeds

Silver Haze is a sativa-dominant (75%) cannabis seed strain from Sensi Seeds that takes the legendary original Haze and makes it actually growable indoors. By crossing the original Haze with an exceptionally strong Northern Lights individual, Sensi Seeds kept the cerebral, uplifting sativa character while reining in the wild growth patterns and marathon flowering times that made pure Haze such a headache for indoor cultivators. Ten regular seeds per pack, bred by one of the oldest and most respected seed banks in Amsterdam.

Why Silver Haze Seeds Deserve a Spot in Your Grow Room

Silver Haze seeds solve a specific problem: you want that classic Haze high — the soaring, long-lasting sativa effect that put Amsterdam coffeeshops on the map — but you don't have a greenhouse the size of a barn or six months to wait for harvest. The original Haze was a magnificent plant with a terrible attitude. It stretched endlessly, flowered forever, and laughed at your ceiling height. Sensi Seeds took that unruly genetics and crossed it with Northern Lights — arguably the most reliable indica in existence — and the result is a plant that still triples in height during the flower cycle but actually finishes in 65-75 days instead of the 12-16 weeks pure Haze demands.

The Afghan heritage from the Northern Lights parent does more than just control the stretch. It contributes to yield size, resin production, and overall plant resilience. Near the end of flowering, Silver Haze forms distinctive oval calyxes with large pistils that swell dramatically and coat themselves in a thick layer of trichomes. The "silver" in the name isn't marketing — it's what the buds actually look like under grow lights when those resin glands catch the light.

We've been selling Sensi Seeds since the early days of the shop, and Silver Haze remains one of their most consistent performers. It's the strain we'd point you towards if you walked in saying "I want something sativa but I'm growing in a tent." That said, it's not a beginner autopilot plant — the height tripling means you need to plan your veg time carefully or you'll be tying branches to your carbon filter by week five of flower.

How to Grow Silver Haze Seeds Indoors

Silver Haze is fitted for indoor growing, but the 75% sativa genetics mean you need a strategy for managing vertical space. Here's how we'd approach it based on what we've seen work best over the years.

  1. Germinate your regular Silver Haze seeds using the paper towel method or directly in a starter plug. Expect germination within 3-5 days at 22-25°C.
  2. Keep the vegetative phase short. Because Silver Haze can almost triple in height once you flip to 12/12, clones and seedlings can be pushed nearly directly into bloom. If you're running SOG, this is where the strain really shines — small plants, lots of them, minimal veg time.
  3. Since these are regular seeds, watch for males once flowering begins. You'll typically see pre-flowers within the first 1-2 weeks after the light flip. Remove males promptly to prevent pollination.
  4. Support the branches during mid-to-late flower. The oval calyxes swell significantly and get heavy with resin, which can weigh down the sativa-style branching. A simple trellis net (ScrOG) or bamboo stakes will save you from snapped branches.
  5. Harvest after 65-75 days of flowering. The calyxes should be swollen and super resinous, with the large pistils having mostly darkened. Check trichome colour with a loupe — mostly cloudy with a few amber is the sweet spot for that classic sativa-leaning effect.
  6. Dry slowly in a dark room at 18-20°C and 55-60% humidity for 10-14 days, then cure in glass jars for at least two weeks. Rushing this step with any Haze variety is a crime — the terpene profile needs time to develop fully.

Silver Haze vs. the Original Haze: What Actually Changed

It could be argued that Silver Haze was the strain that ended the period of decline for the more psychedelic sativa varieties. During the 1990s, indica-dominant strains dominated because they were easier to grow, faster to finish, and yielded more. The original Haze had extraordinary qualities but it was not bred with limited space, large yields, or short flowering periods in mind. Growers loved smoking it but dreaded growing it.

Sensi Seeds preserved the desirable features of the original and optimised the strain for conditions that actually matter to most growers. The Northern Lights cross brought the flowering time down from 12-16 weeks to 65-75 days — that's a massive difference when you're paying for electricity. It also brought the height under relative control (relative being the key word — it still stretches up to 3x, which is tame by pure Haze standards but wild compared to an indica). And the Afghan genetics contributed to yield, turning what was historically a low-yielding sativa into a very large producer.

Trait Original Haze Silver Haze
Flowering Time 12-16 weeks 65-75 days (9-11 weeks)
Height Control Uncontrollable Triples in flower (manageable with SOG)
Yield Moderate Very large
Indoor Suitability Difficult Well suited
Sativa Character 100% Sativa 75% Sativa
Resin Production Good Super resinous (Northern Lights influence)

What to Expect from Silver Haze: Sensory Notes and Honest Limitations

The buds themselves are a thing to look at. Those oval calyxes with the oversized pistils give Silver Haze a distinctive appearance — less dense than a pure indica nug, more open and airy with visible structure, but absolutely caked in trichomes by harvest day. Under an HPS or LED, the resin coverage genuinely looks silver. The aroma during late flower is sharp and spicy with that unmistakable Haze funk underneath — your carbon filter will earn its keep.

According to Healthline's guide to sativa strains, sativa-dominant varieties like Silver Haze are commonly associated with uplifting and energising effects, and are traditionally used for daytime consumption (Healthline, "12 Sativa Strains for Energy, Focus, Creativity"). According to Healthline's strain guide, varieties with Haze genetics tend to be associated with focused, cerebral effects rather than heavy body sensations (Healthline, "Highest THC Strains: 17 Options").

Now for the honest bit: this is a fairly carefree strain for a sativa, but "fairly carefree for a sativa" is not the same as "easy." The height tripling is real and it catches people out. If you veg for three weeks in a 1.2m tent and then flip, you could end up with plants pushing 90cm+ and running out of headroom fast. SOG with minimal veg or aggressive topping during a short veg period are your best friends here. Also, these are regular seeds — you'll need to sex your plants, which means buying 10 and potentially keeping 5-6 females. If you want guaranteed females, Sensi Seeds does offer feminised versions worth considering.

Running Silver Haze in a tent? A quality carbon filter is non-negotiable with Haze genetics — the smell is strong and distinctive. If you're setting up a SOG, check out our propagation trays and clone domes to streamline your workflow. Pair with a reliable pH meter to keep your sativa happy throughout the longer-than-indica flower cycle.
